SO MUCH DRAMA! - A trio of Beavers took their Forensics skills to MSU's Spartan IE Invitational Saturday and performed very well, with Olivia Smith and Ashlynne Krzyzaniak earning 4th place in Duo 9/10 and Ford Kingry coming up just short in an ultra-competitive Informative 9/10. THE BATTLE OF BEAVERTON: Students and staff at BES kicked off Reading Month this afternoon in high style as legends of yesteryear Bridget Rise, Sarah Wildfong, Denette Kranz and Judy Brubaker came out of retirement to lace up the gloves and climb into the ring for the books they love. Eventually, fisticuffs gave way to Rock/Paper/Scissors. INVOLVEMENT: Our excellent Parent Involvement Night series continues Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 5 p.m. at BES with guest speaker Sarah McCurdy from the Clare-Gladwin Great Start Collaborative. Her topics will include "How to Help Your Child Handle Emotions" and "Communication Between Children and Parents." Free childcare and free pizza will also be available and one family will win tickets to a BJSHS athletic event. All families are welcome to join us.

***Attention Beaverton Community*** Fans, including past players, coaches and friends, are invited to join in the last home game celebration for Coach Roy Johnston to be held following the completion of the varsity boys basketball game on Hall of Fame Night Feb. 23. Coach Johnston will retire after 55 years of coaching and 50 years with the Beavers as the winningest coach in Michigan boys basketball history. The celebration will last about 30 minutes. A limited number of tickets will be available for pre-sale in both the Beaverton and Gladwin High School offices starting Monday, February 12th. Ticket sales will start at 4 p.m. the day of the event. Fans may purchase special apparel at coachroy.spiritsale.com. GATHER ‘ROUND: Beaverton Schools is exploring implementation of the Junior High Model for curriculum and campus realignment, and we’re hosting three community meetings to share the details with stakeholders and gather feedback. The meetings are set for Feb. 8 at 5:30 p.m.; Feb. 15 at 6 p.m.; and Feb. 29 at 5:30 p.m. All meetings will be held at the BJSHS Media Center. HAT TRICK: There was plenty of Beaverton sweat poured into last weekend's Gladiators youth hockey district, which saw the area 10U, 12U and 14U teams sweeping their way to the state tournament.
