LOOSE CHANGE: Today marked the beginning of the BJSHS National Honor Society's "Change Christmas" fundraiser. Each day from now through Dec. 5, NHS students will be collecting cash from students during the school day. All proceeds will be used to purchase gifts for families in the community during the holidays. Parents and families, feel free to get involved as well. #BenevolentBeavers
GOLDEN AGE: For his entire BHS career across three sports, Landon Love has been superb at times, dominant at others and always a guy opposing coaches had to worry about. Today, following another excellent season at QB for the Beavers, Love was recognized with the Bay City Times/Coca Cola Golden Helmet Award, given annually to the area's most outstanding player. The surprise announcement was made at lunch to an unsuspecting Love, who was surrounded by his high school peers. He's in good historical company as well, joining Dan Grant (BHS '70) and Trent Reed (BHS '21) as the only Beaverton winners of the award. GUEST LECTURE: Physical Education classes at BJSHS were led today by a pair of gentlemen from the Michigan Army National Guard who brought their Warrior Fit program to Beaverton. Students ran through several different challenging types of drills to get a glimpse at physical training in the military.
GOOD AS GOLD: Put your hands in the air for Hope Van Tiem, Beaverton's D.A.R. Good Citizen for the Class of '26. Hope earned the award for her dependability, service, leadership and patriotism following a vote among the BJSHS staff and was recently recognized at a luncheon in Midland. THE LIFE ROBOTIC: The BeaverTech robotics squads are getting down to business this weekend as the junior high squad (AKA FTC) heads off to compete at Bullock Creek on Saturday. The high school team (FRC) is practicing now but typically competes after the holiday break. You can view the team schedule at beavertechrobotics.org/team-info. SPRINGING INTO TRACTION: It's always an experience when Firefighter Phil Andrist shows up at the school with his bag of first responder tricks. Today, he spoke with Anatomy & Physiology students on the importance of proper immobilization techniques in caring for patients with possible spinal injuries. A SPECIAL DAY: The Beaverton Elementary Salute to Veterans event has evolved into a heartfelt display of appreciation to our local heroes by our young students.
