HOCO Kick off!
SAFER AND STRONGER: With the passage of our bond proposal in 2021, Beaverton Schools affirmed its commitment to a safer, more secure campus with the improvements that would follow. Today's safety drills marked another step in honoring that pledge to protect our kids. Students and staff trained to properly deploy The Boot, a system designed to alert the entire campus in the event of an emergency, lock down each building and prevent intruders from entering the classroom. Available in each classroom throughout the district, The Boot is a barricade and alarm system that can withstand 16,000 pounds of pressure while alerting administrators and law enforcement that a lockdown is underway. Today, staff and students observed a safety demonstration and then practiced proper procedures in the event The Boot is necessary. (BES kids also got to meet safety mascot Bobby The Boot.) Learn more about this latest Beaverton Schools safety measure at bit.ly/3qYOCLw and watch this space for more safety information soon. #SafeAndSound #GoBeavers

BEAVERS ASSEMBLE! A brief pep assembly today at BJSHS provided the opportunity to take care of several important pieces of business, including the always-entertaining yell-down competition; a beautifully-rendered fight song; the introduction of Mrs. Inscho and Mrs. Sanderson as principal and assistant principal, respectively; and the well-deserved recognition of student-athletes Karley Fischer, Eva Reader and Kaelyn Fischer for earning high honors from The College Board National Recognition Program. #GoBeavers #FirstWeekFrenzy

A NEW APPROACH: After much thought, study and deliberation, the Beaverton Schools Board of Education and administration have made significant changes to the BJSHS cell phone policy. It's going to be an adjustment for everyone, but students and parents need to know what the changes are and why they were made. View the explanatory video at bit.ly/3siyK6y and our FAQs page at bit.ly/45x1lDw.

THE HOUSE IS OPEN: Families won't want to miss Wednesday's Beaverton Schools Open House. The event runs from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at both BES and BJSHS. Aside from meeting teachers, obtaining class schedules/other important info and getting the general lay of the land, students in grades 5-12 will sign their technology usage agreements and receive their Chromebooks. (And to tide you over until then, enjoy this photo of the group of young folks who helped out with today's seventh-grade orientation. Thanks to them for working overtime.) #ItsTime #GoBeavers
