UPDATE FROM MHSAA:
With the announcement from the Governor’s office and MDHHS, along with today’s Representative Council meeting, here is the updated MHSAA plan for fall, winter and spring sports.
The Governor and MDHHS have a shared priority that high schools need to reopen first, followed by extra-curricular activities. With high schools now reopened, the MDHHS has announced a pilot testing program that will allow the three unfinished fall sport tournaments to resume under these new testing requirements. The updated emergency orders continue the pause on all organized sports except those three fall MHSAA sports identified in the MDHHS pilot testing program. This will allow those schools with teams still playing in MHSAA tournaments (volleyball and football) and individuals in LP girls swimming & diving (Finals qualifiers, only) to resume practice on Monday, Dec. 21. All safety protocols remain in effect. The tournament schedules for these 3 fall sports are as follows:
Volleyball- Quarterfinals on Tuesday, Jan. 5; Semifinals and Finals on Thursday-Saturday, Jan. 7-9 at Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek.
Swimming & Diving- Finals on Friday, Jan. 15 (Diving) and Saturday, Jan. 16 (Swimming) at 3 locations.
Football- Regional Finals and 8-Player Semifinals on Saturday, Jan. 2; Semifinals at home sites and 8-Player Finals on Saturday, Jan. 9 ; Finals on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 15-16.
All details on this pilot testing program will be shared by MDHHS with the MHSAA and those fall sports schools soon.
Unless new MDHHS orders are issued, all winter sports practices and competitions may start when the updated emergency orders expire on Jan. 15. Only virtual contact is allowed for all sports in all member school facilities, except those fall sport schools and individuals still in the MHSAA tournament following the pilot testing program, at this time. Schools and coaches should strongly discourage any non-school activity by individuals during this pause to not create more virus spread so that we can return to play. All winter sport tournaments will conclude by the end of March and updated scheduling guidance and winter sport tournament dates will be finalized and shared with member schools next Tuesday, Dec. 22. Note that the one outdoor winter sport, skiing, may begin outdoor practices and competition on Monday, Dec. 21 with no change to the published MHSAA Ski tournament dates. All indoor junior high and middle school sports may also resume when the orders expire on Jan. 15. All safety protocols remain in effect when winter practices and competitions resume.
At the current time, the updated MDHHS emergency orders do not allow for any spectators at contests for both fall and winter sports.
All spring sports will start on time and no changes will be made to spring sport tournament dates.
Additional winter scheduling details and finalized tournament dates will be shared with schools by the end of the day next Tuesday, Dec. 22.

Academic Support for 9th - 12th grade students:
I first would like to acknowledge how difficult distant learning is for everyone involved. It is difficult for our students and our teachers. There is no rule book for the best way to do this. We are continually trying to find effective ways we can offer support to our families.
Students, all the work you have been assigned will count for a grade and you must pass your classes in order to receive credit. In an attempt to provide more help with your assignments and answer questions, we will be offering academic support by appointment only. Review the chart below with your specific date and time. You must call the school to sign up. If you are in need of transportation, please call our office. We may be able to help. Don’t delay, call today. Lunch will be provided. Finally, any student wanting to speak with our school counselor can also call the office for assistance. Don’t forget, every teacher has their daily schedule posted in their google classroom and can always be reached by phone and email. Please call 989-246-3010 to sign up or answer any questions.
MONDAY: Juniors attend 12:00pm to 3:10pm
TUESDAY: Seniors attend 10:00am to 1:30pm
WEDNESDAY: Sophomores attend 12:00pm to 2:10pm
THURSDAY: Seniors/Freshmen attend 12:00pm to 3:10pm

Artsonia is an online art gallery- check out what BJSHS has been creating in the art room! Especially in the crazy times that we're experiencing right now, this is a safe, fun way to share our student artwork and give them the recognition they deserve. You can view, share, and comment on their artwork and what they've been creating all year- you can even see their entire art portfolio for all of their middle and high school years! You can even help out the BJSHS art room by ordering prints, mugs, cards, and more with your student's artwork on it and the proceeds come right back to our art room. If you are a parent and don't see your student's work, you can contact Miss Barnett or log in with your student's Google account to grant permission. If you do not wish to do this, your student artwork will remain available only to the student and teacher- it's a safe, fun way to share and view all of the great things that our student's accomplish in the art room!

UPDATE FOR 9th-12th GRADE STUDENTS: Good evening families. If you have not heard, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, along with Gov. Whitmer, have extended the current “pause” order for 12 additional days. This means 9th through 12th grade students must remain on remote learning at least until we return from Christmas break. Again, this is only for 9th - 12th grade students.
In light of this new information, 9th -12th grade students will continue with their current mode of learning, either online or with packets. If you have been learning online, you will continue to receive your work online. If you have been learning with paper/pencil packets, a new packet will be available for pickup on Thursday, Dec 10th. Please drop off your completed old packet when you pick up the new one. Once you have completed the new packet, you will have until Friday, Dec 18th at 4pm to drop it off. If you do not drop it off by 4pm on Friday the18th, you must bring it back when we all return to school on Jan. 4th, 2021.
I cannot stress enough to students and their families how important it is for each student to take ownership in their own learning and complete their schoolwork during this distant learning time. Every teacher is available daily to assist any student who calls or emails. Please take advantage of this resource.
If you have any questions, please contact the school office or teachers.

MHSAA UPDATE:
Dear MHSAA Community,
Today’s announcement from Governor Whitmer and MDHHS has extended the “pause” on high school in-person instruction and high school and middle school sports through Dec. 20.
The MHSAA had provided a detailed plan to both Governor Whitmer and MDHHS that would have completed fall tournaments with no spectators as safely as possible during the month of December along with allowing winter sport practices to resume. While we are disappointed in today’s announcement, we will continue to look forward as we remain committed to play three sports seasons to their conclusion. The MHSAA Representative Council will meet on Wednesday of this week to chart out another plan for finishing Fall and restarting Winter.
Updated information will reach you again following Wednesday’s Representative Council meeting.
Beaverton School will provide the next update upon receipt. We hope our volleyball team can complete their tournament run. GO RED!
