RED-HANDED: The high-fives were flying this morning as elementary students got a front-door greeting from Varsity and JV football players who encouraged the youngsters to join in the after-school Homecoming festivities and fun. They might've also mentioned something about #GoBeavers. #HOCO24
WHO WON? HUMANKIND, THAT'S WHO! Spirit Week is building strong toward tomorrow's Homecoming Parade and Game, but today's first-ever Powderpuff Volleyball showdown between Team Fly (varsity volleyball) and the Mud Dogs (varsity football) was an excellent warm-up as, shall we say...a contrast in styles. TRYIN' TO MAKE HIS WAY HOME: Join the Class of '27 Saturday night at Metzger Field for Movie Night. The fundraiser will feature food, fun and a feature film about a dude trying to phone home - "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial" on the big screen. Tailgating begins at 7 p.m. and the show follows at 8. Proceeds benefit the sophomore class. Obviously, this is a #GoBeavers situation.
HOCO NEED-TO-KNOW: With Homecoming fast approaching on Sept. 20, there's lots to know, so here we go. The theme is Hollywood Movies and the parade lines up at 4 p.m. at BES for a 5 p.m. start; enter from the M-18 south entrance. A community tailgate will follow in the stadium parking lot. ...WITH A BANG: The JV football team started its season with an impressive win over Evart Thursday night, 30-6. The varsity football team heads to Evart tonight for a 7 p.m. showdown and the cross-country squad runs this afternoon at Ogemaw Heights. Seems like a great day to #GoBeavers, but then again, aren't they all?

A WELCOME DISTRACTION: Students at BJSHS were given a hands-on demonstration today of the vey real dangers of distracted and impaired driving. The Save A Life Tour is a comprehensive high impact safe driving awareness program that informs, educates and demonstrates the potentially deadly consequences resulting from poor choices and decisions made by the operator of a motor vehicle. After a video presentation and lecture, students were able to use an interactive simulation to experience the real-life effects of driving while distracted and impaired, learning just how dangerous it can be.
WHAT, ALREADY?! It's hard to imagine only a week into the school year and with the mercury pushing north of 90 degrees(!) today, but Homecoming Week is a scant 21 days away. (Indeed, students begin deciding on the court this week.) Want to make sure you're appropriately geared for Sept. 20's festivities? Our cross country team ran "under the lights" in St. Johns Friday night. Gage Spencer finished 30th out of 152 runners followed by Eric Larson, Braeden Hargrove, Riley Sprague, and Reed Sprague. Their next meet is Thursday in Ogemaw Heights. Go Red!
SCHOLARSHIP CHASERS: Tenth and eleventh graders, you might qualify for the National Merit Scholarship program. Want to find out for sure? Junior High Volleyball is starting up for 7th & 8th grade girls! Practices will begin Monday, August 26th at the Elementary Gym. Volleyball practices will run Monday-Thursday from 3:30-5:00. All players must have a sports physical on file with the Jr./Sr. High School office. Athletes will need to pick up their “green card” from the office prior to joining practice. The ”green card” shows the coach that a physical is on file, the athlete is cleared for play, and there are no outstanding MHSAA violations. If you have any questions you may contact the office.
