1. Academic Afterschool is cancelled for today because of a staff meeting. Please
make arrangements for a ride home.
2. There will be no CTE on Tuesday, May 16th. Both AM and PM CTE students will
stay here at the school to attend the Academic Assembly. Students will report to the
media center during their CTE time.
3. 8 th -11 th Grade GIRLS INTERESTED IN JOINING POM PON next year should attend
an interest meeting during their lunch time in the library on Monday, May 15 th . Get
your lunch first, then report to the library. It’s important to express your interest as
we’re purchasing more uniforms and want to get correct sizes.
4. MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS INTERESTED IN RUNNING CROSS
COUNTRY IN THE FALL should attend an interest meeting in the library on
Wednesday May 17 th during their lunch hour. Get your lunch first, then report to the

5. Seniors: Graduation tickets will be available to be picked up in the office on
Wednesday the 17 th .

Events: High School Track 9 th /10 th Hornet Invitational, team release at 2:30 pm, bus
departs at 2:45 pm, meet starts at 4:00 pm
Events Results: The track team competed in the Legends Meet at Gladwin on Friday.
Notable performances were:
Taj Spencer 3rd in the 1600, Mason Ptak 4th in shot put and 6th in discus, William
Warner 2nd in pole vault, Ioana Irimia 5th in the 800, and Tessa Wohlschlegel 1st in the
1600 and 1st in the 3200 with a new school record! The freshmen and sophomores
compete on Monday at Harrison.

THE YEAR-ENDER: Beaverton Schools' LINKS program, which pairs student mentors with younger students with autism or other disabilities, celebrated the end of its first year today with some exercise, some fun and some ice cream. Participants from all grade levels got together and played games, ran obstacle courses and genuinely enjoyed the connective moments they shared today and throughout the year. This program promises to be even bigger next fall as more mentors join the ranks, and the only word to describe its initial run this year is "success." #GoBeavers

FAMILIES WITH DENTAL NEEDS: The GLB Health Centers Dental Bus is returning to Beaverton Schools next week, and if your student needs some preventative dental services, this is a great opportunity. The mobile dentist will be at the school Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week for all interested K-12 students. Volunteer Opportunity: Today at 3:30 p.m. the BAC is organizing a Spring Cleanup. If you are able to volunteer you may want to bring your own pair of gloves since cleanup will consist of spreading mulch, cleaning flower beds, removing trash, and more.

News from Science! 9th Graders learning about brain chemistry conducted an experiment to determine if exercise had an effect on memory. We analyzed data from groups who jump roped for 10 minutes and those who watched Sponge Bob for 10 minutes. Memory tests were given before and after the activities and the results are in! 67% of those exercising showed improvement and only 36% of cartoon watchers showed improvement on the test. What was most surprising was the number of males who showed improvement after exercising! A whopping 86% of boys jumping rope did better on their 2nd memory test. Equal numbers of girls did better/worse after the exercise and watching cartoons. So there you have it! Let kids run around before you give them a test! It's science!

mentoring!

Setting PR's for the team were: Kamdyn Avila and Justis Martin in the 100, Skyler Jezak
in the 200, Brady Lee in the 400 and 3200, Taj Spencer in the 800, Mason Ptak, Jake
Wolfe, Tayton Wohlschlegel, and Seth Keeley in the shot put, Colin Smith in the long
jump, Ioana Irimia in the 800 and Leiyah Mungin in the shot put! Next competition is
Friday in Gladwin.

TO BE FAIR...: Mrs. Johnson's students in the Jobs for Michigan's Graduates program hosted a job fair this morning for young folks looking for work this summer (or beyond). Several local employers were on hand to meet the many students who showed up dressed for success with résumés in hand, ready to make good eye contact and a great first impression.
