Beaverton High School Cancels Home Varsity Football Game Against Harrison Due to Injuries; JV to Play Away
BEAVERTON, MI — September 14, 2026 — Beaverton High School athletic officials announced today the cancellation of the upcoming home varsity football game against Harrison High School, originally scheduled to be played at Beaverton on Friday, September 18.
The decision was made due to a depleted varsity roster caused by a high number of student-athlete injuries. School administrators and the coaching staff determined that the varsity team cannot safely field the minimum number of healthy players required for a matchup this weekend.
The primary goal of the cancellation is to give sidelined varsity players the proper window to rest and recover so that Beaverton can safely and competitively complete the remainder of the 2026 season.
The junior varsity (JV) game against Harrison will still be played as originally scheduled on Thursday, September 17. Kickoff is set for 6:00 PM away at Harrison High School, and the athletic department encourages fans to travel and support the JV squad.
"The safety, health, and long-term well-being of our student-athletes will always be our absolute top priority," said the Beaverton Athletic Department. "While we are incredibly disappointed for our varsity players, coaches, and fans, this difficult step is necessary to allow our team time to heal. We are grateful that our JV student-athletes still have the opportunity to compete this week, and we extend our sincere appreciation to Harrison High School, the Jack Pine Conference, and the Beaverton community for their understanding and continued support."
Information regarding ticket refunds or vouchers for the canceled home varsity game will be released by the athletic department later this week.
Beaverton High School will host the optional PSAT/NMSQT on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, starting promptly at 8:00 AM. Due to strict testing time constraints, participating students must arrive by 7:50 AM.

THERE AND BACK: The BJSHS juniors and seniors who made the weekend trip to the nation's capitol are returning today, but Teacher Erica Sprague, one of several adult chaperones, checked in with this photo and an update: "We were in Washington, D.C. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We toured Arlington, the Capitol building and all of the big memorials. This trip was about 18 months in the making, and our students represented the school so well; I am so proud of those kids. The event was a great opportunity for our students to get out and see the world, and I’m hoping to continue it for years to come."

The Beaverton Drama & Forensic teams are joining together to put on a showcase on Monday, May 18 at 6 p.m. in the BJSHS Cafeteria. You will see the mix of drama and forensic hard work in a rendition of Fried Green Tomatoes. The entry fee is donation-based and there will be baked goods for sale.
5th Grade Field Day remains scheduled for Thursday, May 14th. That will be a self-transport to the School Athletic Complex, beginning at 9 am.
The Washington DC Trip is as scheduled. Mrs. Sprague will continue to communicate all plans to the group.
The 8th grade Mackinac Island Trip for Saturday is as scheduled. Mrs. Barnes will be the main contact for that trip and more communication will be coming tomorrow.
Seniors and their families have recieved an email regarding senior exams and next steps.
