BEAVERTON SCHOOL BOARD: ‘UNSUNG HEROES’

The challenges sweeping through public education can feel daunting at times for teachers and school administrators. In those difficult times, educators in Beaverton take comfort in knowing there’s one group of folks that always has their backs: the Beaverton Schools Board of Education.

That’s why staff and students at Beaverton Schools are taking time in January to make sure everybody knows about these vital volunteers during School Board Recognition Month.

“Our school board members are truly unsung heroes in the community,” Superintendent Joe Passalacqua said. “Far too often, the essential work they do to help keep our school strong and our students safe goes unrecognized.”

Beaverton School Board members are President Adam Zdrojewski; Vice-President Jason Pahl; Treasurer Tammy Grove; Secretary Mark Hayes; and Trustees ShaVonne Brubaker, Mike Dodman and Ryan Longstreth.

“The board’s over-arching duty for the district is to support student achievement,” Passalacqua said. “That comes in many forms - everything from creating and maintaining a vision for what parents and students want the district to be to setting academic and professional standards for students and teachers, and a ton more. Without a great board, a school district can’t succeed.”

The superintendent encouraged community members to visit beavertonschools.net/board to learn more about the men and women who lend their considerable time and talents to this essential community function.

“I hope our community realizes how vital it is to have a strong board whose members work so well together toward the common goal of making Beaverton the best school district in mid-Michigan,” he said. “Not every district has what we have, and we’re grateful for everything they do.”
