(Summer) Reading is SWEET!

CELBRATING A SUMMER OF READING...READING IS SWEET!

"Imagine opening the mailbox and diving into another world.  There's something magical about getting a book in the mail, especially to young readers.  We believe every student should have their own great books at home."  (Kids Read Now)

For the last two summers, Beaverton Elementary School has partnered with Kids Read Now, a non-profit organization with a singular mission: to eliminate learning loss for elementary students.  How does it work?

Kids Choose: When they pick them, they read them.  Kids select the books they will receive.

They Get Mail: After students select their books for the summer program, the company sends about one book per week for 9 weeks during the summer.  Each book comes with a Discovery Sheet with four reading comprehension activities designed to aid parents and caregivers in discussing the book with their child.

Celebrate: It has been proven time and time again that a little bit of reading in the summer can prevent summer learning loss.

Participating students were selected based on their individual reading needs.  These student were rewarded for their efforts this past summer with YUMMY ice cream sundaes last week!

Kids that read succeed!
